U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Jon Ossoff (D-GA), alongside U.S. Representatives Buddy Carter (R-GA-01), Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (D-GA-02), Drew Ferguson (R-GA-03), Hank Johnson (D-GA-04), Nikema Williams (D-GA-05), Rich McCormick (R-GA-06), Lucy McBath (D-GA-07), Austin Scott (R-GA-08), Mike Collins (R-GA-10), Barry Loudermilk (R-GA-11), Rick Allen (R-GA-12), David Scott (D-GA-13), and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA-14) urged key Congressional leaders to approve at least $12 billion in federal supplemental disaster appropriations for Georgia in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The latest effort to help Georgians recovering from Hurricane Helene follows Governor Brian Kemp’s November 19 letter to Congressional leaders requesting over $12 billion in federal support.

Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10) made the following statement on the announcement of the permanent closure of Federal Correctional Institute (FCI) Dublin, where for years incarcerated women reported staff sexual misconduct to prison officials and independent agencies alike and experienced deplorable, unsafe living conditions. This announcement follows Congressman DeSaulnier’s continued efforts to hold accountable the perpetrators of the constitutional rights violations and abuse.

Dec. 05 | COMMITTEE QUESTIONING


U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. questioned the United States Postal Service (USPS) Postmaster General Louis DeJoy on mail delays experienced across Kansas during a Senate Governmental Affairs hearing today. As a member of this committee, Senator Marshall has oversight of the USPS and continues to push for meaningful reform to address mail delays.

Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) led members of the New York and Pennsylvania Congressional delegations in sending a letter to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, expressing concern over the cancellation of the Northern Access Pipeline, a proposed $500 million investment in natural gas infrastructure that would’ve created thousands of good-paying jobs. The letter calls on Governor Hochul to reconsider her administration’s interpretation of the Clean Water Act (CWA), which has blocked critical energy projects in the region and cost New York significant economic opportunities.

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06) today sent a letter to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Michael Whitaker expressing concerns and requesting answers regarding the use of the Instrument Landing System Yankee (ILS-Y) approach procedure at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW). Recent findings indicate ongoing safety risks to landing aircrafts and the flying public, which have been raised by whistleblowers and investigators over the past decade.

U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) led colleagues in opposing any potential language in the Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would require American women to register for the Selective Service System. Senators Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), and Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) joined in opposition.

U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., is spearheading a bipartisan effort to advance legislation aimed at supporting more than 50,000 medically retired combat veterans before the end of this congressional term.


The Major Richard Star Act, co-authored by Bilirakis and Rep. Raul Ruiz, D-Calif., is getting widespread support, with 326 cosponsors in the House and 73 in the Senate, according to a press release from the congressman’s office. 65 lawmakers sent a letter to House leadership urging support for the effort.

Dec. 04 | COMMITTEE UPDATE


House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost (R-Ill.), provided the following update on the Committee’s investigation into disturbing allegations of sexual misconduct, including allegations of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and inappropriate interpersonal relationships, at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Mountain Home VA Medical Center in Tennessee. These concerns were first brought to the Chairman by Under Secretary for Health, Dr. Shereef Elnahal, in July, and later confirmed by whistleblowers. Since then, Chairman Bost has sent three letters to Secretary McDonough on the situation at the Mountain Home VA, requested numerous documents and performance reviews, and sent an oversight team to Tennessee to assess the situation.

In a show of continued commitment to addressing the climate crisis, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14),  Representative Melanie Stansbury (NM-01), and Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) sent a letter to President Biden urging the administration to continue delivering on its key climate priorities.


In the letter, the lawmakers also urge the administration to continue its efforts to swiftly disburse key Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funds for climate and clean energy programs and champion efforts to protect communities from dangerous and unnecessary fossil fuel projects.

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a member of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, on Wednesday joined U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and U.S. Representatives John Larson (D-Conn.-01), Joe Courtney (D-Conn.-02), and Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.-03) in calling on the U.S. Department of Education to discharge student loan debt for hundreds of thousands of students who were defrauded by predatory schools. During the first Trump administration, defrauded borrowers’ applications for debt relief were left to languish for years, and if reviewed, were often denied. In their letter today, the lawmakers called for the Department to use its authority to immediately discharge debt.

Congressional Western Caucus Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04) and Senate Western Caucus Chair Cynthia Lummis (WY) sent a letter to Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Director Tracy Stone-Manning, calling on her to cease work on the agency’s Greater Sage-Grouse Proposed Resource Management Plan Amendment (RMPA) and Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

Chairman John Moolenaar sent a letter to Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo regarding the newly released December 2nd export control rule on American advanced semiconductor technology going to China. The Chairman wrote with concern that these rules create loopholes that will continue to allow Chinese bad actors to access US technology and raise questions about the undue influence of the semiconductor industry over the Bureau of Industry and Security's decision-making.

The Vermont Congressional Delegation, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.), and Representative Becca Balint (VT-At-Large) today called on Troy Miller, Acting Commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), to immediately return the hours of operation for six Land Ports of Entry (LPOEs) in Vermont, to pre-pandemic levels, following the agency’s recent reduction of hours at a total of 38 crossings along the U.S.-Canada border.

Congressman Scott Franklin, (FL-18), joined by Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, led the entire Florida delegation in writing Secretary Vilsack to strongly urge the USDA take immediate action to provide disaster assistance for Florida agricultural producers affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
